Well, if you want to get the best price possible price for your car, your best bet is to cut out the middleman and sell it yourself.

To do this, you’ll need to create a listing for your motor on the likes of AutoTrader, show your car to any potential buyers and then haggle until you finally get an offer you’re happy with.

Of course, that takes a lot of time and effort, which might put some people off.

If you’re after the easiest solution then your best bet is to simply part exchange at the car dealership when buying your next car (assuming you’re replacing your Qashqai), but this will likely mean the lowest price.

There is, however, an in-between option that’s still quick and easy but should bag you a decent sale price, and that is selling it to one of the many new car-buying sites out there.

But how do these companies work?

And are there any tricks to watch out for when selling to the likes of Webuyanycar, Motorway and Arnold Clark?

Sell my Nissan Qashqai: who will give me the best price?

How much your Nissan Qashqai is worth will depend on the specific model, its age, and general condition.

If you want a rough idea of your Nissan’s value, you can look at an online car valuation service.

We used Parkers and found that second-hand Nissan Qashqai’s have the following price range.

To get a better idea of how much you can expect when selling your Nissan Qashqai to a car-buying site, we conducted some research of our own by getting quotes for five Nissan Qashqai’s with six of the main car-buying sites: Motorway, Webuyanycar, Cazoo***, Arnold Clark, Wewantanycar and Money4yourMotors.

Having gone through the process lots of times, we can safely say that getting a quote from these car-buying sites is really quick and easy as all you need to do is enter your reg number and mileage.

Some sites like Cazoo do want a little extra information like the number of owners, condition and service history before giving an on-screen price, but it’s still really straightforward.

So what did our research reveal?

Motorway and Cazoo were the top performers as they both offered us the highest price on two out of the five models.

Motorway were unable to provide a price for a 2009 Nissan Qashqai 1.6 N-Tec with 120,000 on the clock, citing the high mileage of the vehicle.

In this instance, both Money4yourMotors and Wewantanycar offered £1,949, which was the best offer.

We also worked out the average price quoted for our Nissan models (excluding the one instance where Motorway couldn’t provide a quote) to compare offers across all the car-buying sites.

Cazoo had the best ‘average’ price at £15,975, which was £115 higher than Motorway, who came in second.

Who made the lowest offers?

Money4yourmotors offered the lowest ‘average’ price for our Nissan Qashqai’s at £14,107, which is over £1,800 less than our two best performers.

Wewantanycar was second bottom with its offer of £14,223, with Webuyanycar (£14,556) a little further up the road.

Of course our analysis is by no means conclusive – we only compared a few cars after all – and the prices should only be taken as a guideline given that some companies may revise their offers after carrying out an inspection of your car.

But what our research does reinforce is the fact that no car-buying site will pay the highest prices for every car.

Each company has their own business model that makes certain factors more – or less – appealing to them.

For example, some might like not want high-mileage cars, others might be desperate for SUVs, and so on.

What that means is you have no way of knowing who will give you the best price for your specific car.

That’s why we strongly suggest you shop around for quotes from different car-buying sites.

It’ll literally take less than 20 minutes and could net you hundreds, if not thousands, of extra pounds for your car.

When doing our research, we found some sites quoted £3,500 more for a Nissan Qashqai than one of their rivals did for the same car.

These quotes tend to be fairly accurate these days so if you find one site quotes a far better price than any of the others, you can be reasonably confident you’re on to a winner.

If there’s not much in it, then proceed with the offer that looks best once you’ve factored in any fees (see the next section for more) but be prepared to go through the process again with someone else if that company tries to slash the offered price just before the sale.

Key considerations before selling your Nissan Qashqai: fees, collection & more

Before selling, make sure you’re aware of any fees that are charged as these can have a huge impact on how attractive an offer is – especially on lower-value cars.

The main charge to look out for is ‘administration fees’ – when companies make a charge for selling your car – and you may also incur a collection fee if you want a home collection, rather than driving it to a drop-off centre and sorting a lift home afterwards.

Some sites like Motorway are completely fee-free and will also collect from your home.

Others, like Cazoo, will charge you a £49 admin fee AND you will pay a £149 collection fee unless you’re happy to drop your car off yourself at one of its centres.

Webuyanycar charge admin fees of up to £74.99 depending on the value of your car, but don’t offer a collection service.

Money4yourMotors and Wewantanycar both charge admin fees of £125 but do provide a free home collection service.

Sell my Nissan Qashqai: what documents will I need?

Before selling your Nissan, it’s worth checking you have all the necessary documents as failing to show one of them could mean a lower price, or you may be unable to sell your car.

Here’s what you’ll need:

• At least one set of keys;
• MOT certificate;
• Logbook (also known as a V5C document);
• Service history (ideally stamped by the dealer);
• Receipts for any work done, parts purchased, recent repairs etc.

What to do after you sell your Nissan Qashqai

After you sell your car, you must tell the DVLA that you’re no longer the car’s owner.

You can do this by filling in the relevant section of the V5C log book and sending it to the DVLA or by completing a form online.

You should also contact your insurance company to cancel your existing policy, as you may be due a refund, minus any policy admin fee.

You will automatically get a refund for any complete months of vehicle tax left on the vehicle and this will be sent to you as a cheque.
